How Much Does a Custom Wedding Dress Cost?

Everything You Need to Know About the Cost of a Custom Wedding Dress

One of the first questions many brides ask is:

"How much does a custom wedding dress cost?"

It's a completely understandable question—but it's also one of the hardest to answer with a single number.

Unlike an off-the-rack wedding dress, every custom bridal gown is individually designed, patterned, constructed, fitted and finished specifically for one bride.

That means every gown is unique.

Some custom dresses are surprisingly affordable, while others involve hundreds of hours of craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics and intricate hand detailing.

The important thing to understand is this:

You're not simply buying a dress.

You're investing in a gown created specifically for your body, your vision and your wedding.

In this guide we'll explain:

  • Typical custom wedding dress pricing
  • What affects the final price
  • Why two seemingly similar gowns can cost very different amounts
  • Whether custom is actually better value than buying off the rack
  • How to budget confidently

Whether you already have a clear vision or are still bringing your ideas together, our process is designed to feel personal, transparent, and reassuring. Based in Subiaco, Perth, we create custom-made wedding dresses for brides locally and across Australia.

Why Brides Choose Custom

Many brides choose custom because they have not found exactly what they are looking for in existing bridal collections.

You may choose custom if:

  • You have visited multiple bridal stores but still feel something is missing.
  • You love elements from several different dresses and want them combined into one design.
  • You found a gown online that is not available in Perth or Australia.
  • You want a coloured, non-traditional, or unique wedding gown.
  • You want a dress created around your body, style, personality, and wedding vision.

Custom allows you to create a gown that feels truly yours.

What Makes Our Process Different?

Designed To Be Stress-Free

Our process is designed to be clear, collaborative, and stress-free.

You do not need to know every detail before you begin.

Some brides come to us with a full vision. Others come with Pinterest images, screenshots, fabric ideas, or simply a feeling they want their gown to capture.

Our role is to help refine your ideas into one cohesive bridal design.

We guide you through the options, explain what is possible, and help bring your dream gown to life with clarity and care.

The Custom Timeline

We generally recommend allowing 6–8 months for the full custom process.

Shorter timelines may be possible depending on our schedule and the complexity of your gown.

Step 1: Request A Quote

Begin your journey by completing our Request a Quote form.

This helps us understand your overall vision, ideas and preferences.

Once we receive your request, we will review your ideas and provide a personalized quote.

If you are happy to proceed, we will arrange your in-store design consultation.

Step 2: Vision & Design Consultation

We begin with a private consultation at our Subiaco studio to understand your ideas, preferences and wedding vision.

For Perth Brides

What we do:

  • Explore silhouettes, fabrics and details
  • Refine your direction
  • Align expectations
  • Discuss production timeline
  • Take measurements

For Interstate Brides

If you are based outside Perth, we offer a remote custom bridal process through email, phone, or video consultation. We work with brides across Australia and provide the same thoughtful guidance throughout the process.

You will be guided through design options, measurements, production updates, and final approval before your gown is shipped to you

Optional: Digital Design Sketch

For brides who would like to see their ideas visually brought together before production begins, we offer an optional digital design sketch service.

This can help you preview:

  • the overall silhouette
  • key design details
  • neckline and sleeve placement
  • fabric and embellishment direction
  • how your ideas work together as one gown

This service is optional and attracts an additional fee.

Step 3: Order Confirmation

Once you are happy with your quote and design direction, we will finalize your custom wedding dress order.

A 50% deposit is required to secure your place in our production schedule. This allows us to begin planning your gown, sourcing materials, and preparing your custom design for production. From this point, your gown officially begins its creation journey.

Step 4: Design & Production

Each custom wedding dress is individually created with care, precision, and attention to detail. Throughout production, we provide updates so you can feel confident and informed as your gown progresses.

1. Design Confirmation & Fabric Selection

We confirm with you the final design details, colour, embellishments, and overall gown direction before production begins. We will also guide you through carefully curated fabric options suited to your design.

This ensures everyone is clear on the vision before moving forward.

2. Silhouette Mock-Up

After the completion of the design details, a mock-up is created to refine the shape, structure, and proportions of the dress. A mock-up try-on is available as an optional service (attracts an additional fee.)

This can be helpful for brides who would like to review the silhouette before final production.

3. Embellishment Placement

If your gown includes lace appliqués, beading, or detailed embellishments, these will be carefully positioned and reviewed.

Photo updates will be provided so you can approve key details before final sewing continues.

4. Final Production

Once all details are confirmed, your gown is completed by our dressmaking team.

When production is finished, we capture photos of your gown so you can review the final result before delivery to our store for your first fitting.

Step 5: Final Review, Fitting & Delivery

For Perth Brides

We will arrange for you to return to our Subiaco store for your fitting.

During your fitting, we review the gown with you and assess the fit and details as per your order. Any required alterations can be arranged through our partner bridal alteration seamstress.

For Australia-Wide Brides

Once your final gown photos are approved, your completed gown will be packed and shipped to you. You may arrange alterations through your preferred local tailor.
