Real Bride: From Interstate to Dream Dress - Grace’s Journey
Share
Distance was no obstacle for Grace, who trusted our custom-made process to create her dream wedding dress from across state borders.
Like every bride, Grace dreamed of a wedding dress that reflected her unique style and personality. Although she lived interstate and couldn’t visit Envious Bridal & Formal in Perth, she trusted our custom-made process to bring her dream gown to life from afar.
For many brides, ordering a one-of-a-kind wedding dress online can feel daunting, especially when they haven’t had the opportunity to meet with the bridal brand. Yet as online shopping continues to evolve, more brides are embracing the convenience, flexibility, and wider possibilities it offers.
While visiting a local bridal boutique will always be preferred by some, Grace’s experience shows that distance doesn’t have to stand in the way of creating your dream custom-made wedding dress.
How It Started
For Grace, finding the right wedding dress was an important part of planning her special day. She wanted a gown that not only looked beautiful but also made her feel confident and comfortable.
As a Canberra bride, Grace initially hoped to find a local designer who could create her custom wedding gown. However, her search proved challenging, and with COVID lockdown restrictions making travel to Sydney or other states difficult, her options were limited.
Determined to work with an Australian bridal business that could understand and bring her vision to life, Grace decided to look beyond her local area and discovered Envious Bridal & Formal in Perth. Although she was initially uncertain about having her wedding dress made interstate, she decided to take a leap of faith and trust the custom-made process.
By this stage, Grace had already visited several bridal stores and had a clear idea of what she wanted. She was drawn to lace designs that combined timeless elegance with a modern touch, while comfort and ease of movement were equally important.
To help communicate her vision, Grace shared photos of a gown she had previously tried on, using it as inspiration for her custom design.
"I was a bit uncertain at first," Grace admitted, "but it turned out to be the right decision."
The Inspiration
Grace’s custom wedding dress was inspired by a gown she had discovered during her earlier visits to a local bridal store. While she loved the overall design, it felt “almost but not quite perfect”—allowing her to refine it to suit her personal style and preferences.
Grace made a few thoughtful changes to the original design, including replacing the low, open back with a more modest back cut-out that better complemented her figure. She also chose to replace the original mocha lining with luxurious gold satin, adding warmth and elegance to the gown.
These personalised details retained the essence of the original design while making the dress uniquely Grace’s—a gown created around her vision, her preferences and how she wanted to feel on her wedding day.

The original wedding dress Grace tried on at a local bridal store, which she said was "almost but not quite perfect".
Grace’s custom lace wedding dress was meticulously handcrafted from the very beginning, from pattern cutting through to the final stitch. Every stage of the process was carefully considered to create a gown that was uniquely hers and tailored to her vision.
The Design Details
Grace’s custom-made wedding gown featured;
- Bateau neckline
- Sleeveless
- Low V sides under arms
- Back cut out with closure
- Gold lining over ivory patterned lace
- Stretchable lace for comfort
- Mermaid silhouette
- Scalloped lace hem
- Sweeping chapel length train
Before production began, Grace requested a digital sketch of her custom wedding gown. Our design team created a detailed illustration incorporating her specific design preferences, giving her a clear visual representation of how the finished gown would look.
This allowed Grace to review and approve the design with confidence before we moved forward to the dressmaking and production stage.
The V-back (left) was the original choice Grace had considered, but after consideration decided to change to a round keyhole back (right).
The Fabric
One of the first things that captivated Grace about the original gown was its beautiful lace. The intricate pattern and striking detail were exactly the look she wanted to recreate in her custom wedding dress.
To make the gown more personal, Grace also chose to incorporate subtle gold tones into the lining, adding warmth and elegance that complemented her complexion.
Finding the right fabric can sometimes be one of the challenges of creating a custom wedding dress, as availability, sourcing, and proprietary designs can limit the options. Fortunately, we were delighted to find a lace for Grace’s gown that closely resembled the original design she had fallen in love with.
Finding such a close match so early in the process was an exciting start to Grace’s custom wedding dress journey and gave her confidence that her vision could be brought to life.

The Finished Production Photos
Grace’s gown featured an all-over lace design without intricate lace placement or embellishment work; we were able to proceed directly to pattern cutting and dressmaking without the need for a mock-up.
Our dressmakers carefully constructed the gown with meticulous attention to detail, bringing Grace’s vision to life. Once completed, the gown was taken to our photography room, where we captured its silhouette, intricate lace detailing and overall finish from various angles.
The final production photos were then sent to Grace for her approval. She was thrilled with the finished gown and happily gave us the go-ahead to send it to our Perth store—one step closer to finally seeing and wearing her dream wedding dress in person!

Grace's vision now a reality with her custom made wedding dress.
"The dress had exactly the wow-factor I wanted and it really felt like “my dress”. After trying on several dresses in stores, I felt like I had a good idea of what I liked but I couldn’t get it all in the one dress. Choosing to get a custom design meant I could have it all" - Grace Hogan
The Bride's Big Day

"I have always loved going to weddings and experiencing all of the personal touches that people include. It’s a celebration of love, and you feel all the special things that make them unique as a couple. We had a backyard wedding on our property and my husband and I designed the whole thing. We collected couches, chairs and tables together for months; we dried flowers and put them in VB bottles, built our own arbor, and our best friend completed a six-month celebrant course so he could marry us. Getting a dress that was part of that vision was important to me." - Grace Hogan

"I received so many compliments on my wedding day about my dress and felt beautiful. It met all my criteria, including – very importantly – being able to dance in it!"- Grace Hogan
The Bride's Feedback
I’d heard about how expensive wedding dresses could be and was a bit nervous when I first looked at getting a custom gown. But the price was actually very similar to what I would have paid for something off the rack. The dress had exactly the wow-factor I wanted and it really felt like “my dress”. After trying on several dresses in stores, I felt like I had a good idea of what I liked but I couldn’t get it all in the one dress. Choosing to get a custom design meant I could have it all.
