Real Bride Luciarna: A Designer-Inspired Custom Wedding Dress
When Luciarna discovered a designer wedding dress she loved, she knew exactly the look she wanted for her wedding day. The challenge was finding a way to bring that vision to life within her budget — while navigating pregnancy, changing measurements and a wedding date that was approaching.
A Second Chance to Find Her Dream Wedding Dress
For Luciarna, choosing her wedding dress was about more than finding something beautiful.
Having been married before, she remembered the disappointment of wearing a gown that hadn't truly reflected what she wanted.

This time, she was determined to make a different choice.
Luciarna had fallen in love with a breathtaking designer wedding gown. She adored its fitted silhouette, intricate embellishments and delicate detailing, but the original dress was beyond the budget she had set for her wedding.
Rather than give up on the look she loved, she began exploring the possibility of having a designer-inspired custom-made wedding dress created especially for her.
That's when she contacted Envious Bridal.
Finding the Right Time to Begin
When Luciarna first inquired in June 2022, she was six months pregnant and planning her wedding for March 2023.
Her baby was due in October, leaving a relatively short period between giving birth and her wedding day.
Naturally, she had questions about sizing.
She wanted a beautifully fitted gown but was concerned about having her measurements taken during pregnancy, particularly when she knew her body could change considerably in the months ahead.
Ideally, Luciarna hoped to wait until January 2023 before taking her measurements. However, that would leave very little time to create a detailed custom gown from scratch.
We discussed her circumstances, the production timeline and the adjustments that might be needed closer to the wedding.
Based on Luciarna's previous experience with postpartum changes, we agreed on an approach that allowed production to begin earlier while leaving room for final fitting adjustments.
This was a decision made specifically for Luciarna's circumstances, rather than a standard recommendation for brides who are pregnant or expecting their measurements to change.
It meant we could begin working on her gown without waiting until the final months before her wedding.
The Designer Inspiration Behind Luciarna's Gown
Luciarna's inspiration was the Estelle gown by Galia Lahav.
The original design featured a dramatic fitted silhouette, an intricate beaded mesh, delicate embellishments, a plunging neckline and a low back.
It was the combination of texture, detail and silhouette that captured her attention.
However, Luciarna didn't want every element of the original gown.
She had her own ideas about the fabric, lining, embellishments and how revealing the finished design should be.
At Envious Bridal, designer inspiration is a starting point for discussing the features a bride loves. We don't reproduce another designer's gown exactly. Instead, we work with each bride to develop a custom design informed by her inspiration and personal preferences.
For Luciarna, that meant preserving the overall feeling of the gown she admired while making thoughtful changes to create a dress that felt right for her.
Choosing the Fabrics and Details
One of the most important parts of Luciarna's design was finding the right fabric.
She particularly loved the distinctive gridded appearance of the original gown's embellishment.
Although an identical fabric wasn't available, we explored alternatives that could achieve a similar visual effect.
Luciarna had collected several reference images and was very clear about what she wanted to avoid.
She wasn't looking for glitter or sequins, a sparse fabric pattern or a lining with a strong yellow-beige appearance.
After reviewing the options, we proposed a beautifully detailed beaded mesh with a gridded pattern.
It offered the texture and visual interest she loved while giving her custom gown its own character.
Creating the Illusion Neckline
To achieve the delicate appearance of a plunging neckline, we incorporated fine illusion tulle.
This provided subtle support and helped maintain the shape of the neckline without creating a heavy or obvious fabric panel.
We selected a wheat-toned tulle for Luciarna's gown, considering how the colour would appear against her skin and alongside the other fabrics.
Selecting the Floral Lace Appliqués
Floral lace appliqués were another important part of the design.
These decorative details would add dimension and softness to the gown, complementing the geometric pattern of the beaded fabric.
We selected appliqués that fit the overall design and could be carefully arranged across the bodice and skirt.
With the main fabrics and embellishments selected, Luciarna approved the design details and production could begin.
Behind the Scenes: Creating Luciarna's Custom Wedding Dress
A custom wedding dress involves a series of decisions and construction stages before the finished gown is ready.
For Luciarna, we shared photographs throughout production so she could see how her design was developing and review important details along the way.
Starting With the Dress Mock-Up
The first stage was creating a mock-up of the gown.
This preliminary version helped establish the silhouette, proportions and construction before the final fabrics were used.
It also gave us an opportunity to assess the design and make any necessary refinements before moving forward.
Finding the Right Fabric Layering
Because Luciarna's chosen beaded mesh was sheer, the lining and fabric layers would have a significant effect on the finished appearance.
She wanted the dress to retain a delicate, slightly sheer quality, but she also wanted more coverage than the original designer inspiration.
We explored different layering options and prepared visual samples so she could see how the fabrics looked together.
A nude-toned lining was selected beneath the beaded outer layer to create the coverage she preferred while allowing the intricate pattern to remain visible.
This was one of the most important personalisations in her design.
Rather than accepting the original gown's level of transparency, Luciarna was able to choose a finish that better suited her comfort and preferences.
Positioning the Lace Appliqués
Once the gown's construction had progressed, our dressmakers began arranging the floral lace appliqués.
Each piece was positioned carefully across the gown before being permanently attached.
We shared progress photographs with Luciarna so she could review the arrangement.
She requested a few changes to the placement, including removing certain appliqués.
These adjustments were made before the final placement was approved.
It was a small but meaningful part of the custom design experience: Luciarna had a say in how the details of her dress came together.
The Finished Custom Wedding Dress
After months of planning, fabric selection, construction, and detailed finishing, Luciarna's wedding dress was complete.
The finished gown brought together the elements she loved from her designer inspiration with the personal changes she chose.
Its fitted silhouette, intricate beaded fabric, floral appliqués and carefully considered lining created a distinctive look that reflected her vision.
We sent Luciarna the final production photographs for her review.
She was delighted with how the gown had turned out.
Now came one of the most anticipated moments of the entire process: seeing the dress on herself for the first time.
Luciarna's First Wedding Dress Fitting
By the time Luciarna attended her first fitting, she had welcomed her baby and was preparing for her March wedding.
Seeing her custom gown in person was a special moment.
The dress she had imagined, discussed and watched develop through production photographs was finally there for her to try on.
As expected, some fitting adjustments were needed.
The gown felt slightly snug in certain areas, so our tailors assessed the fit and recommended a small adjustment to the seam allowance to improve comfort and movement.
At her second fitting, the adjustments had been completed and the gown sat more comfortably.
This stage was particularly important given the changes Luciarna's body had experienced during pregnancy and after giving birth.
Her experience is also a useful reminder that even a custom-made gown may require final alterations to refine the fit, particularly when measurements change between ordering and the wedding.
Luciarna's Wedding Day
When Luciarna's wedding day finally arrived, she wore the gown she had been dreaming of.
From the first designer inspiration photograph to the final fitting, every stage had brought her closer to a dress that reflected what she truly wanted.
And unlike her experience with her first wedding dress, this time she hadn't settled for something that didn't feel right.
She had been involved in the design, chosen the fabrics and details, and watched her gown take shape.
The result was a wedding dress with a story that was entirely her own.
